  •  Sunday, January 29th, in our Bible Study, we will start the letters written by John (1, 2, and 3 John). Toward the end of the first century, some Christians began “drifting away” from the truth about Christ. They were losing touch with those who had known Jesus in the flesh as the founders of the church began to die off. They were also being seduced by competing doctrines (teachings), especially early froms of gnosticism. As a result, second and third generation believers began to grow cold in their love for each other and lukewarm in their commitment to the truth. One response to this trend was the writings of John. These letters call Christians back to the basics – the truth about Christ and the love of Christ. Does this sound crucial for Christians today? Why not come and discuss this – please read 1 John, chapters 1, 2, and 3, then come and join us in a time of discussion, followed by a time of fellowship. You are more than welcome to come to the Brookfield Church Hall at 7:00pm

Welcoming a Stranger – Looking for an exciting opportunity to take part in the life-changing ministry of helping refugees begin new lives in Canada? Refugee sponsorship is a tangible way for a congregation to take action. More than 4.5 million Iraqi citizens have been uprooted from their homes since the Iraq conflict began in 2003 and over 2 million have sought asylum in neighbouring countries. An opportunity now exists for Presbyterian congregations to take on sponsorship of Iraqi refugees. To learn more about embracing the challenge of welcoming a refugee to Canada, as well as what funding is available, speak to your minister or mission committee leader, and contact PWS&D refugee coordinator Carolyn Vanderlip at cvanderlip@presbyterian.ca or call 1-800-619-7301 ext. 249. www.presbyterian.ca/pwsd/welcoming-a-stranger/.
